There are very few times in life that are quite as exciting as the months before a new baby arrives! Unfortunately, there are very few times in life that are as busy. Before the arrival of your child, you’ll realize that there are plenty of things for you to get busy with. Here are some things that you must get done…
Pack Your Hospital Bag
First of all, it’s important to get prepared for the day that you actually go into hospital and give birth. Depending on different women, this could be under a huge variation of circumstances – maybe your waters will break at home completely by surprise or you’ll have to be induced in hospital if you’re overdue. No matter the circumstances, it’s crucial to be prepared and to have a hospital bag ready to pick up and go at a moment’s notice. Make sure that you put supplies for your baby in there like diapers, onesies and a going home outfit, and make sure that you have supplies for yourself too. This might include music to play, toiletries like deodorant and mini bottles of shampoo and body wash, and chargers to make sure that you have plenty of battery in your phone. You might also want to take a book with you, just in case, along with comfortable clothes like leggings and a dress to wear home.
Create Your Baby’s Nursery
One of the most fun parts of becoming a parent is figuring out what exactly you want to do for your baby’s nursery. Some parents want to be very specific with their babies’ rooms – if they’re expecting a girl they’ll go for butterflies and pink and fairies, while boys are all footballs and blue and racetracks. Why don’t you go for something a little more in the middle? Go for pale green walls and decals of jungle animals marching around the bottom of the room, or maybe yellow walls along with grey elephant patterns and designs? Make sure there’s a comfortable seat for you to sit and nurse in there, that you pick a good quality cot from a company like Cuckooland Cots, and that everything is easy to find and intuitive – have a basket of diapers that is easy to reach along with a Diaper Genie so it doesn’t get too whiffy!
Prepare Your Other Kids
Finally, if you already have any other children then it’s important to make sure that they’re thoroughly prepared for the arrival of their new sibling. It can sometimes be difficult for children to share the attention of their parents with a new brother or sister, so make sure you emphasize how exciting it is and what fun they’re going to have with their new siblings. Keep them as updated as possible – if you know the gender of the baby, let them know whether they’re going to have a brother or sister. You could also make sure that you buy them a gift from the baby when it’s born – you probably already know just how favorably gifts will make your kids look at people!
