From the moment we bring our bundles of joy home, moms everywhere are constantly concerned about keeping our kids safe from hurt and harm. We’re all aware accidents can and will happen, but in our infinite wisdom we also know prevention is the key. Every product, especially cleaning products are stored in a safe place high above little hands and eyes.
Laundry detergent packets first became available in the U.S. in 2012. To my pleasure and to many moms, the convenience of not having to pre-measure laundry detergent or stick around to add fabric softener is a real-time saver. However, the bold bright colorful designs and the strong fragrance found in pods are a curiosity for toddlers and small children. These pods or laundry packets are a lot more toxic due to their higher concentration of chemicals. Just last year the CDC Centers for Disease Control and Prevention received over 1.3 million calls involving poison control for children.
The makers of Child-Guard, the Presto Products Company, took great lengths to create packaging that meets industry packaging and federal Poison Prevention Packaging Act standards (PPPA). They knew it was a void in the flexible packaging industry for a child resistant zipper and committed themselves to developing a solution that would satisfy this critical market need. In a nutshell, they saw a need and filled it.

Child-Guard package closure is designed to keep children safe, yet also easy for adults to operate.
To open the package the consumer must first move the slider to the left point of the zipper. Next, the consumer must push down on the slider’s tab and at the same time pull the slider along the track. Flexible packaging represents approximately 18% of the total packaging market and is the fastest growing type of packaging in all consumer goods markets. Flexible packaging refers to packaging or containers made up of flexible or easily yielding materials that, when filled or closed, can be readily changed in shape. The construction may be of any combination of plastic film, paper, or foil. Mom’s everywhere can now breathe a sigh of relief when purchasing and using common household products with Child-Guard child resistant closure.
