Unless you live in a rural area, under a rock without a radio, TV, cable or internet, then you KNOW about go fund me. go fund me, based in San Diego, California, is a crowdfunding platform that allows individuals or groups to raise money for pretty much anything.
In it’s infancy, and now on rare occasions, go fund me has helped patients pay for medical bills and surgical procedures they couldn’t otherwise afford to pay for themselves. Actors & Fans have come together to produce major motion pictures, that Hollywood wouldn’t fund, but people wanted to see. But, with really without any checks and balances for go fund me accounts, do you really know where your money is going???
I personally equate go fund me accounts with the beggar by the freeway entrance, sure he could be a veteran, but how do I really know???
I personally know a family of 6 whose house burned down who benefited tremendously, from a go fund me account. But, now it seems that go fund me accounts are 90% used to raise funds for burial/funeral expenses and the other 10% for frivolous things like the woman who started a go fund me account to replace all the money she lost playing the the power ball and losing. Or, killers of innocent black teens, starting go fund me accounts to pay their legal fees.
Really? Where they do that at?
I understand that many of us don’t have life insurance policies (although, we SHOULD), so sometimes a fund raiser, and those sympathy cards with the $$$ inside are really needed. But, what happened to real ol school fundraisers, like car washes or fish fry Fridays? You know the ones where you get something for your money?
I don’t know about you, but I like a bang for my buck….
As a Nurse, I’ve seen so many family members taking care of ill and dying family members and they are unprepared for the final stage, Death. Whether it’s denial, shame or lack of funds, I know the challenges involved in having to bury a loved one. It’s not easy, but it’s not impossible, and you can do it without a go fund me account.
My mother always said, “from the time a child is born into the world, life insurance should be purchased”. Which in a perfect world makes the most sense. Life insurance is at it’s cheapest for newborns and children. As you get older, the cost of life insurance increases, exponentially…
But, I know life gets in the way, and no one who is busy living life thinks about buying life insurance. It’s morbid, most of us don’t want to contemplate leaving….. FOREVER. Instead, change the way you think about life insurance. For, as sure as you’re reading this and living your life, one day, we all die. Think about the burden and the responsibility you’re leaving your loved ones. They’re already sad and grieving your loss, don’t make them embarrass themselves by begging for money to bury you. If you’re currently caring for someone who does not have the finances to bury themselves…. be it your aging parents or teenagers, do your research and Get some life insurance!!!
