After the brutal record breaking winter we just experienced I am SO looking forward to Spring. As I stated before we decided to fore go buying another home and are staying i our current home a few more years. We just finished having new plumbing, heating and electrical installed and now it’s time for some sprucing and decorating (my favorite part).
Spruce up those Drab Walls with a fresh coat of paint
It always amazes me what a quick wall wash and a fresh paint of coat can not only do to a wall but the entire room. I’ve decided to start with a focal wall for my first decorating project. The wall in my foyer receives more than it’s fair share of dings, hand prints and small holes because of it’s location, right behind the front door. It is also painted white, definitely not an ideal color when you live in a house full of teenage boys’. Because we are continuing to live in our home during the decorating I wanted to use a paint that was good for my family as well as the environment. After reading about safe paints I decided to go with paint from the Milk Paint company. Their paints are chemically safe and come in an assortment of colors. I chose the color Pumpkin because it goes well with the chocolate color I have on the wall by the fireplace and the cinnamon color I have on the rest of the walls.
Decorative Tiles or Wall Decals
Once the wall is painted I wanted to adorn it a bit further with a tree wall decal. My ultimate goal is to place knobs on the branches so the tree will be beautiful and functional as a decorated wall hook; to hang jackets, umbrella’s and book bags. We don’t have a closet on the first floor and this wall hook will help to keep my downstairs de-cluttered. The base of the tree or the trunk won’t have any knobs so I’m thinking of adding small glass tiles. These van gogh mosaic tiles are the perfect shape size and color. I think they will reflect light and add that “wow” factor to a wall that was virtually unseen or recognized before.
Pictures in Frames Only
I have far more pictures of my boys’ when they were younger than I do now. In today’s technology we take pictures on our phones or tablets that end up staying on those devices or get deleted before they can be printed. The boys also have posters of sports stars and movie posters they would like to hang in their rooms. The few pictures I did manage to print have been hanging out in a photo album waiting for me to purchase Wholesale Poster Frames. Posters and pictures when being displayed should always be in a frame. Not only does it add aesthetics to the picture it protects it from damage. The total cost of my decorative focal wall is under $50. I think the finished product will be one my family and I will enjoy for many years to come.
How are you decorating this Spring?
