Cooking has always been a passion of mine. From a very young age I enjoyed cooking. My love of cooking has delved me into a love of cooking utensils as well. I’ve learned over the years through burnt chicken uneven cooked potatoes and undercooked pasta you are at the mercy of your cooking utensils.
I asked a chef friend of mine once what’s important when buying a “good” skillet. His response:
1. a good skillet should have a heavy bottom
2. the handle should be heat proof sturdy and secure
3. the surface should be smooth, even and conducts heat evenly
I’ve always use that advice when purchasing skillets and it has worked wonderfully for me. When cooking an important meal for family or friends you do not want to be at the mercy of defective or underwhelming cooking utensils.
The Green Earth Pan featuring ecOzeri
This pan is a dream come true not only to home cooks like myself but professional chefs as well. First of all, it has all three of the attributes my chef friend told me to look for when buying a “good” skillet and so much more. It’s actually a ceramic non-stick pan. I know when I think about ceramic I don’t equate it with cooking pans. But if you think about it ceramic is perfect for pans. It conducts heat evenly and it’s tough as nails- well not really nails per se but it’s tough.
The first thing I cooked in my pan was fried chicken. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly, evenly and thoroughly my chicken cooked. Prior to using the Green Earth pan I always fried chicken in large cast iron skillet given to me by my grandmother. While I love my cast iron skillet it is very heavy and the handle is definitely not “heat proof”, I have the burnt fingers to show for it. Even though the ozeri has a heavy bottom it is a relatively light weight pan.
You can purchase the 8″ inch Green Earth Pan at Amazon for $25.95
The Green Earth pan is ultra safe 100% PTFE* and PFOA** free. Which basically means this pan is Good for the Earth. When you purchase and use this pan you don’t have to worry about the chemicals used to make the pan non-stick being a pollutant that has been banned by the EPA which is a plus, wouldn’t you agree? I thought so. It’s virtually impossible to burn anything in this skillet.
The non-stick surface is AH-MAZING! My teenage sons who are budding cooks love it just as much as I do. In fact, I plan to purchase an entire set of these pans. The Green Earth pan I received for review was only 8 inches and just not large enough when I want to cook a big meal in one skillet. It’s good for single omelets, frying breakfast sausage and making meals for one or two. I loved the ease of use of this pan and cleaning the pan was a breeze. I wish all of my pots and pans were as easy to clean. If you’re in the need of some new pans or even if you want to add a new pan to your existing set I recommend the Green Pan.
*PTFE (PolyTetraFluoroEthylene), a synthetic substance that has waxy
properties. At very high temperatures, PTFE begins to decompose and
release fumes which are documented to be lethal to birds and small pets,
and which can be harmful to humans. In addition, traditional pans
incorporating PTFE are manufactured with the aid of **PFOA
(PerFluoroOctanoic Acid), which the EPA has classified as a ‘persistent
pollutant of the environment’.
