2014 has so far proven to be a record breaker —- weatherly speaking. From the frigid temperatures to the snowfall I’ve found myself embracing the cold and thinking. Ahhh thinking you say, yep thinking and pondering about my life so far.
Perhaps it’s the New Year or maybe it’s the upcoming milestone birthday I’ll be celebrating on the 19th of this month. I’ve never been a person to sit back and make resolutions and count my accomplishments or failures from year to year. Quite the opposite. As long as my family is alive, together and safe I count my blessings. Mediocre to some but quite monumental to me. I guess I’ve become cynical in my impending middle-age but I’ve lived long enough to know that the “old saying” “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans” is very true.
I take life one day at a time and I try to improve myself. How I treat myself and others is very important to me. My surroundings, well while they may not be ideal they have been extremely conducive for family and learning. No, I won’t be making any resolutions this year. Instead I plan to take my life by the horns and appreciate all that I can around me. If that includes drafty windows and squeaking floor boards I not only accept it but I embrace and appreciate it; because I also know it’s the mediocrity of day to day life that shapes us into the people we are.
