Downton Abbey is by far one of my favorite TV series to watch. Something about the formality of how the castle is ran and all of the servants and staff is very mesmerizing to me. It’s hard for me to watch a show about a family and not compare it to my own family. The similarities and differences between their family and mine is part of my addiction to the show. I can honestly admit I have sat and watched hours of the show and felt no guilt afterwards.
If you’re unfamiliar with the show it starts out in the years leading up to World War I. The drama follows the Crawley family and their servants. The Crawley’s are a long line of Aristocrats living in Downton Abbey a formidable and breathtaking castle in England. Lord Crawley is obsessed with his heritage home, Downton Abbey as he is of his wife Cora and their daughters. The show covers major events in history like the sinking of the Titanic and the start of World War I.
The show is actually filmed at Highclere Castle (the real Downton Abbey). Die hard fans of the show flock to Highclere Castle by the thousands every year. Downton Abbey tours have been on the rise every year with the success of the series. To view the rooms and experience the ambiance of the castle I thought was only a fantasy. As it turns out you can fly to London from $421 each way. Who knew? Now that I know visiting Downton Abbey doesn’t have to be a fantasy I am definitely planning a get away to London.
