If you’re like me you feel “shameful” being so addicted to and watching “Shameless” The dad, Frank Gallagher is a shameless falling down drunk, who leaves his eldest daughter, Fiona in charge of her sibling brood. Fiona, in a difficult position being the eldest of the Gallagher children, takes the responsibility of child-rearing which often results in humorous outcomes. For example: in Ep. 4, the middle Gallagher child Debbie, after becoming depressed with her Aunt’s passing, decides to steal a toddler from a birthday party. Fiona and the rest of the siblings devise a plan to return the boy to his family while going unnoticed by the increased police presence in the area.
Although I’ve never felt the extreme weight that Fiona must feel, I can empathize with her plight. These are not her children. She is their sister, and yet she is more responsible for them than Frank would ever be.In many ways the other children are blessed to have such a responsible sister. How did she become that way? She sacrifices her own Life and happiness for the betterment of her family. When it appears that their is a light at the end of the tunnel for Fiona, a way out, like crabs in a barrel the family pulls her back in. Will she ever get out?
If you have not had the pleasure of watching the Gallagher’s, Season one is now available on DVD and Blu-ray. A great off beat comedy-drama series, Season One would make a great Stocking Stuffer.
Disclosure: “I have been hired by Warner Bros. WBWord division to promote Shameless Season One on DVD.”
